Waiheke has become a magnet for creatives. Many find the environment and culture of the island conducive to pursuing their passion. However, the island has only a small population to support the creative endeavours of actors, writers, directors, theatre technicians and costume designers.
The magic of theatre lies in its power to elevate stories to reflect our struggles and to cast its spell and bring us all together. On Waiheke Island there are so many voices and talents waiting in the wings to be heard, nurtured and shared.
Our passion is the performing arts. Our dream is to build a sustainable arts endowment fund to ensure that the creativity and talent on the island can be cherished and supported in, and beyond, our lifetimes.

Our Mission
Local actors. playwrights and community theatre groups need our help. It is our mission to support and grow the performing arts in our community through our encouragement and your funding contribution.
Why this Matters
In small communities like ours, resources for the performing arts are always limited. Yet theatre and live performance play a vital role in fostering social connection, maintaining community identity and nurturing individual talent and well-being.
What our Community Needs
On Waiheke, we know there is a clear and growing need for investment in high-quality, accessible live performances. We need to enhance the performing arts infrastructure and offer more workshops and scholarships to upskill actors, directors and technical crew.
Our Objectives
- Provide financial support to local actors, directors, and theatre groups
- Fund performances, workshops, scholarships, and school holiday programmes
- Support the creation of new works that reflect our local stories and histories
- Increase community participation in the performing arts through opportunities to upskill all who want to become involved
- Establish an endowment fund to support the Waiheke on Stage Foundation in perpetuity
